Helen Violet Gizara, 94, died Nov. 6, 2008, in her home.

Mrs. Gizara, a native of Mahanoy City, Pa., was the widow of Raymond Louis Gizara since his death in 1969. She retired in 1979 from the Co-Operative Association of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a canteen operator after 29 years of service. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and its Nifty-Over-Fifty Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy G. Montague and husband Robert of Hagerstown, Md., Rose Marie G. Mitchell and husband Joe of High Point, N.C.; two sons, David W. Gizara and Raymond E. Gizara, both of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Antoinette Mazza of Ozone Park, N.Y., Elizabeth Klein of Oak Ridge, N.J.; and a brother, Charles Meskis and wife Rose of Garfield, N.J.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Monday in St. Therese's Catholic Church by the Rev. Robert Cummins and Mrs. Gizara's nephew, the Rev. Joseph Monahan. The family will receive friends at church one hour prior to the Mass and at a reception following the Mass.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Therese Catholic Church Building Fund, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321.
