"J. L. Peurifoy, aged 66, died . . . last night at 6 o'clock. He was one of Atlanta's pioneer citizens and has hundreds of friends to mourn his death.
He is survived by seven children: J. L., Jr., Hudson, Misses Nannie, Cleo, Georgia, Viola and Helen.
For over forty years Mr. Peurifoy was a railroad civil engineer and was engaged in railroad construction throughout many southern states.
He was an old civil war veteran. He was the first surgeon in Alabama war hospitals. He was a member of the Gordon Street Methodist church . . . "
