Officials in Haywood County say a man who died following a house fire Saturday night was a volunteer firefighter.

28-year-old Brandon Burgess was found unconscious inside the burning home on Pandora Circle.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Neighbors tell us Burgess leaves behind a wife and two children.

Burgess had been a volunteer fireman with North Canton Fire Department since 2005.

"Brandon was a loyal, dedicated firefighter," said North Canton Fire Chief Steve Kelley. "Any time we called on him, any time we needed him, he was there. He will be sorely missed by his brother firefighters, his family, and the community."

The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing, and is being conducted by the Haywood County Fire Marshal's office and the Haywood County Sheriff's Office.

"The Sheriff's Office shares in grief for the family of Brandon Burgess and North Canton Fire Department," said Haywood County Sheriff Greg Christopher. "We share a bond with fellow emergency responders, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his fellow firefighters
during this difficult time."
