Weaverville—Bonnie Lee Sluder Alexander, 92, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at her residence in Weaverville.
A native of Buncombe County, she was born June 23, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Daniel Ervin and Hester Deweese Sluder. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Howard Alexander; brothers Robert, Donald, George and Jennis Sluder, and her sister Lois Sluder Nesbitt.
She graduated from French Broad School and was employed at American Enka, Hayes and Hopson and Burlington Industries. In 1951, her husband was transferred to Dallas, Texas, with the Postal Accounts Division. Upon his retirement in 1971, they returned to Weaverville. She was the oldest active member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church, the ladies Sunday School Class and sang in the church choir.
