Sylvia Ellis Blue Dunford, 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. She was born on September 12, 1918, in Surry County, North Carolina, to S. H. and Cora Lee Harrell Blue.

She was active in community service and volunteered at Crisis Control, Reynolda House and Baptist Hospital. Mrs. Dunford enjoyed international travel and was an avid admirer of the arts. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem for 68 years. In recent years, Mrs. Dunford enjoyed the activities and friendships at Arbor Acres.

Mrs. Dunford was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wellington Dunford; two brothers, John D. Blue and Archie Blue; and two sisters, Thelma Alrich and Verna Wass. She is survived by two daughters, Helen (Heinz) Ullrich and Diane (Bob) Wood; two grandchildren, Lucy Wood (Scott Marks) and Emily (Jeremy) Lynn; one great grandson, Jude Lynn; and two brothers, Joe Bill (Ellen) Blue and Edwin Martin (Greta) Blue.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, in the Arbor Acres Fellowship Hall. The family would like to express their special thanks to the dear friends at Arbor Acres who brought much joy to her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Dunford' s name either to Crisis Control or to the Arbor Acres Residents Financial Assistance Fund.
