Civil War Union soldier. He enrolled at Philadelphia for a 100-day term and mustered in at Camp Cadwalader just outside the city as a Private on July 15, 1864 in Company F of the 196th Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry, known also as the Fifth Union League Regiment. He mustered out with his company on November 17, 1864.

S. of A., and surviving members of the 198th Regiment, Penna. Volunteers, invited to funeral services, Tues., 8 P. M., 2005 N. Lambert st. Int. Wed., 2 P. M., North Laurel Hill."
Lewis was the son of Alexander and Alice (Toy) Blackburn.
He worked as a book binder.
