She was the daughter of Reinhold Eisbrenner and Susanna Becker. She was recorded as being born in Tannapol- but that is probably a transcriber mis-spelling of Tarnopol which is now Ternopil in Ukraine and was previously Ternopol in Russia. She used the name 'Marie' like her maternal aunt, Maria Becker Milke Diefenbach. Reinhold was born in Lodz, Poland on January 9 1859 to Wilhelm August Eisbrenner and Friederike Auguste Triebe. Reinhold is believed to have died in Siberia* before all of his children had grown up. He may have been drafted into the Russian army. The younger ones were taken in by Susanna's parents. Susanna may be the daughter of Jacob Becker and Magdalena Mayer. Her birth record is needed from the Polish or Russian Archives. She was previously believed to be the daughter of Johann Baecker/Becker and Maria Luther/Lutter**.

Marie had at least ten siblings, although not all of them lived to adulthood. Her sister Bertha was born in Terespol on June 5 1881 and married Conrad Ficks, brother of Marie's husband Martin. Her sister Lena (perhaps Helena, or even Madeline, Magdalena, or Carolina) married Rudolph Wuerch. Bertha and Lena may have lived in Breslau and apparently never immigrated to the United States or Canada. Marie's brother Reinhold was born in Terespol on October 10, 1879. He began his immigration journey with Marie and her daughters Bertha and Annie- but was forced to leave them alone in Liverpool in December, 1899.

Marie's birth name was Marianna. She never used that name after leaving Russia-Poland. She arrived in Philadelphia with only her daughter Bertha on January 18 1900 on the ship Belgenland. Her husband Martin immigrated to Philadelphia in August of 1899 and was supposed to meet Marie and their two daughters on Christmas Day at the docks. Unfortunately, when Marie arrived in Liverpool they had to leave their family group on the ship Rhynland (including brother Reinhold)and stay in the Brownlow Workhouse because little Annie had become ill. Annie died on December 30 and was buried in Liverpool as Bertha would recall years later. Annie was finally discovered to have been buried in Walton Park just as her four year old sister Bertha remembered all those years ago.

Marie was married twice. She married Martin Ficks about 1895 in Rowno, Volhynia, Russia-Poland (probably Terespol) and they were the parents of 2 daughters:

1-Bertha Ficks (1896 Marianowka/ Marjanowka, Kreis Luck, Volhynia, Russia-Poland/Ukraine-1960 Philadelphia, PA)
2-Annie Ficks (1899 Marianowka/ Marjanowka, Kreis Luck, Volhynia, Russia -Poland/Ukraine or possibly Germany-1899 Liverpool, England)

[Note-Marianowka is pronounced 'Marian-oofka' and closely matches the pronunciation remembered by Marie's grandson.]

The family moved to Milwaukee about 1904 and Martin worked for a brewing company with his brother Michael. They returned to Philadelphia before 1910 leaving Michael and his family in Milwaukee. Martin died in 1915 in Philadelphia. In 1922 Marie married widowed Julius Edward Hackbart and raised his three children whose mother had died in 1918- Louis/Ludwig, Bertha, and Eva. Marie took in boarders to earn money for her household. Julius had a deformed leg and did not always work. Marie cooked and cleaned for German and Polish immigrants who had no other family to live with. She was also a seamstress. She and her daughter Bertha later sewed costumes for the famous Mummer's Parade in Philadelphia. She spoke German, Yiddish, and English.

Marie was related to quite a few people in Philadelphia who immigrated from the old country. Her aunt Maria Becker Milke Diefenbach immigrated in 1900 with her second husband. She remained close to her brother Reinhold Eisbrenner who began her journey from Russia with her in 1899. Marie and Martin briefly lived in Marienhohe, Prussia with other relatives from Volhynia before departing for Liverppool. One of those relatives was her cousin Karl Eisbrenner (1876-1959 Konsages, Salchow, Anklam, Neubrandenburg, formerly 'East Germany'), also born in Marianowka, who later immigrated to Philadelphia as well. Karl lived there from 1905 until 1908. He returned to Germany for several years before his wife and son Edwin were able to emigrate from Russia and meet him there. He was married to Ottilie Buech (1875-1924). Marie corresponded with Karl until the 1950's, sometimes sending sugar and coffee during the war. Karl's son Edwin (1901-2000)*** was actually born in Kerkici (Kerkichi), Lebap, Turkmenistan. He died in Ludwigslust, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Deutschland (Germany).

Marie's second cousin, also named Reinhold Eisbrenner, immigrated to Canada sometime after World War II with his wife Ottilie Patzer
and at least one of their eleven children, Arthur Eisbrenner. Reinhold was the son of Carl Wilhelm Eisbrenner (Jan 25 1878 Terespol) and Maria Latislaw (Dec 10 1880 Puchawa, Volhynia-Sept 7 1954 Bielefeld-Babenhausen, Germany). Carl Wilhelm was the son of Karl Eduard Eisbrenner (Dec 15 1837 Nowa Lodka, Lodz, Poland-unknown) and Julianna Olschewski (May 6 1836 Lodz-unknown). They were married in July 1859 in Lodz. Karl's half-brother Wilhelm August Eisbrenner was the grandfather of Marie Eisbrenner Ficks. Their father was Martin Eisbrenner (1790-1858).

Marie's second husband Julius died in 1947 and she moved in with her daughter Bertha Ficks White. Her great grandchildren called her 'Trum Trum'. After her daughter Bertha passed away in 1960, she lived with her granddaughter Thelma White Wolfinger. Due to her dementia, she had to be moved to a New Jersey nursing home where she died after falling and breaking her hip. Sadly, Thelma later said she felt guilty for moving Marie to the nursing home. Marie died with her sewing thimble still in her pocket. One of her great-granddaughters has the thimble and also a slender wedding band from her marriage to Julius.

*Reinhold's cousin, August Samuel Eisbrenner (1866-1915) died in Kostanay, Siberia (now Kazakhstan). He was the son of Eduard Karl Eisbrenner and Julianna Olschawski.

**Susanna Luther Eisbrenner was born on March 31 1861 in Blumenthal, Volhynia, Russia-Poland (Zhitomir Parish). That year of birth would make her an eligible age to have given birth to Marianna in 1878. However, other family trees recently began using that Susanna as the one who immigrated to the United States and died here. The Susanna born to Jacob and Magdalena originally had a birth year of 1849 on an unsourced family tree which now changed her year of birth to conform to Reinhold's. Since Reinhold was born in 1859, he probably would not have married a woman ten or more years older when he was just 18 or 19 years of age. Her true year of birth remains unknown.

**************************************
Marianna/ Marie's oldest known ancestor (descending down to her) was:

I-Peter (also known as Piotr Palilóda) and Rozyna Eisbrenner (died 1840). Rozyna died in Zielonka, Goczki Niemieckie, Warthbrücken (Koło), Posen, Preußen (Prussia), Deutscher Bund (German Confederation).

II-Christoph Eisbrenner (1764-after 1814) married Anna Catharina Jeske (died in 1840) They lived in Babiak, Kolo County, Poland. Christoph was a farmer.

III-Martin Eisbrenner (Oct 8 1790 Zurawieniec, Babiak, Kolo County, Poland-Jan 28 1858 Lodz, Lodz, Poland) baptized October 27 1790; married Karoline Scharf (1803 Witkowo, Wielkopolska, Poland-Jan 5 1834 Nowa Lodka, Lodtz, Poland). They were the parents of five known children. Martin later married Elsbeth Kluge (Feb 25 1817 Kołonie Grömbach. Lodz, Poland) and she became the mother of seven more children by the time she was 30 years old. Martin was a blacksmith. One of his sons with Elsbeth was Karl Eduard (Dec 15 1837 Nowa Lutka, Lodz, Poland--abt 1909 Sergejufka (Sierhiejówka), Ukraine). Karl Eduard trained as a blacksmith and left Zellow, Poland with his brother (believed to be his half brother Wilhelm August, 1830, SEE below). They first went to Terespol, but when the railroad went through about 1880, the families had to move. Karl took his family to Sergejufka. Karl's son Carl Wilhelm (1878 Terespol-1955 ) had a son named Reinhold (1897 Sergejufka-1995 Saskatchewan), possibly named after Wilhelm's son Reinhold (1859) who also trained to be a blacksmith. Reinhold (1897) immigrated to Canada in 1955.

IV-Wilhelm August Eisbrenner (Sept 12 1830 Nowa Lutka, Lodz, Poland-?); baptized September 14 1830 in Lodz, Lodz, Poland; married 3 times- his second wife Friederike Auguste Triebe (1832-1864) on July 13 1856 in Lodz, Lodz, Poland. Wilhelm was a cartwright or wagon maker and later a carpenter. Wilhelm's first wife was Friederike Wilhelmine Trinkaus (1835 Szadek, Lodz, Poland-August 18, 1855 Zduńska Wola, Lodz, Poalnd). She died at age 20 after they became the parents of one known child, Gustav (Sept 20, 1854 Lodz, Poland). Wilhelm's third wife was Hulda Gläske, whom he married on April 22 1883. They were the parents of one known child, Wilhelm (Aug 21 1887 Terrepol, Rowno, Russia-Poland).

Friederike was the daughter of Johann Wilhelm Triebe (1796 Roda, Halle, Burgenlandkreis, Saschen-Anhalt, Germany-March 11 1871 Lodz, Lodz, Poland) married Dorothea Maria Elisabeth Krummholz (1795 Roda, Germany-July 18 1865 Lodz, Lodz, Poland. She was the daughter of Christoph (1769 Roda, Germany-Jan 28 1854 Lodz, Lodz, Poland) and Regina Krummholz. Christoph Krummholz was a tailor and shoemaker.

V-Reinhold Eisbrenner (Jan 9 1859 Lodz, Lodz, Poland-after 1890 Rowno, Volhynia, Russia-Poland) was living in Terrepol, Volhynia by age 16; married Susanna Becker at about age 18 and had a total of at least 10 children. Reinhold was a blacksmith. According to family stories, he died in Siberia after being drafted into the Russian army (possibly as late as 1916), perhaps at a gulag. His younger children may have been supported by their grandparents after his death.

VI-Marianna 'Marie' Becker Eisbrenner (Jan 24 1878-Nov 16 1964 NJ) married Martin Ficks in Volhynia before 1896; married Julius Hackbart in Philadelphia in 1920.

The first four generations of Eisbrenner genealogy was provided by Christian Wolfrum-Roggensack of Germany. He has created the most complete Eisbrenner online family tree for this branch of Eisbrenners (before Marie's father Reinhold) at http://eisbrenner.rpgame.de. In turn, he has used all of my Ficks, Eisbrenner, Milke, Ostroske, and other family research from the late 1800's until the mid twentieth century. I am his 4th cousin and I wrote to his grandfather ***Edwin in East Germany in 1976 (using an old address in Consages that was found on an envelope). A letter came back after more than 25 years of lost contact since hearing from his father's cousin Marie in Philadelphia. Edwin was presumed dead when he did not continue the correspondence after that one letter, but apparently he lived until the year 2000 (age 98). I contacted Edwin's son Christian in 2014, and learned that he was aware of my letter from America to his grandfather almost 40 years earlier.

An additional connection is found with the family of Georg Fiks (married to Auguste Leimart Fiks mentioned above): Auguste and two of her adult children, along with their families immigrated to Canada in 1928. They were accompanied by Wilhelm and Olga Eisbrenner. Wilhelm was Marie's second cousin. They both had the same great-grandfather, Martin Eisbrenner. Since Marie married Martin Ficks, there was probably a connection to Georg Fiks/Fix whose son Adolph was born in Marianowka/ Marjanowka, Volhynia, Russia-Poland, the same town as Marie's daughter.
She was the daughter of Reinhold Eisbrenner and Susanna Becker. She was recorded as being born in Tannapol- but that is probably a transcriber mis-spelling of Tarnopol which is now Ternopil in Ukraine and was previously Ternopol in Russia.
