SCOTTSBURG - Phillips, Morris G. "Red," 88, died on Friday, March 22, 2013.

He retired after a lifelong sales career of hardware, tools, plumbing supplies, etc. from the old Belknap, Inc. and several other companies before founding his own company, M.G. Phillips Sales and Associates. Red was a member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He flew 35 combat missions as a B-17 tail gunner in the Europeans Theatre of Operation (1944-45). Red enjoyed family, friends and his dog, Marquis.

Red was preceded in death his wife of 44 years, Roberta L. "Bobby" Phillips and six siblings. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Gardner-Phillips; a daughter, Barbara Whitley (Rick); two sons, Robert and Sam Phillips; two stepsons, William "Buff" (Carol) and Rick Gardner (Sandy); six grandchildren, Jill O'Leary, Melanie Riki-Anne Ferraro, Jessica Williams, Carson and Ashley Phillips and Mallory Gardner and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scottsburg United Methodist Church with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at his church.
