FLAG POND, TENNESSEE - Services for George Gaither Metcalf, 104, of Route 1, who died Wednesday in Asheville VA Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Capps Funeral Home. The Rev. E.W. Jenkins will officiate. Burial will be in Metcalf Cemetery.
A native of Madison County, he was a retired farmer. He was the oldest N.C. World War I veteran. He was the husband of the late Pansy Ramsey Metcalf.
Surviving are three daughters, Alda Trotta of Berea, California, Juanita Cisek of Union City, California, and Barbara Anderson of Asheville, North Carolina; a son, Charles Edward Metcalf of Union City; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
