Mary was my friend since High School. She is the one who led me to the Lord. † She battled with Breast Cancer for twelve years. After her first visit to the hospital, she realized her past dream of becoming a Doctor. She went back to school for twelve years, and was a doctor for one month before the cancer spread and had to quit. I asked her one time, why do you think the Lord had you go through medical school and become a doctor if only for one month. She replied that the first patient she saw had breast cancer and she got the chance to lead her to the Lord. Only God knows the reasons why, but I do believe that He will lead us to His perfect will if we are willing. Mary was not bitter ever, and she would of done it all over again for one soul. God will do whatever it takes to help each one of us to see His great love. Even before this, if I could sum up Mary in just a few words, it would be Soul winner. She would used every chance she had to show others of His great love.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
Part of you did not go alone;
For a part of us went with you,
The day God called you home. †

In the fall of 1997, we lost an individual who bravely battled cancer for years. and even though she had plenty of reason to worry about her own health, Dr. Mary Castillo spent most of her time helping others. Throughout her medical school career, her residency and finally her practice, Mary spent countless hours reaching out to meet the needs of her family, and friends, and patients. As a tribute to her life of service, Joe Castillo has lovingly established the Dr. Mary Castillo Memorial Scholarship at the James H. Quillen College of Medicine. This fund will provide scholarship opportunities to medical students who have a particular interest in Christian medical missions. I hope you will seriously consider supporting this wonderful memorial. Mary's life serves as an example to all of us, and even in her passing we can see hope for countless others through the service of physicians who will benefit from your generosity.

"God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
"He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face. "He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
"His garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best."
