Son of Andrew and Margaret (Wasson) Ellision. Samuel chose Miss Sarah E Van Duzer, daughter of James and Elizabeth Van Duzer.

"Lewis Ellison, Principal of the schools of Silver City, Iowa, returned Tuesday from a week's visit with relatives in Schuyler county. He was called hither by the death of his father, Samuel Ellison of, Tyrone. ..."

"Samuel Ellison, one of the oldest and best known citizens of the town of Tyrone, died of cancer of the stomach, Monday, January 23d, 1888, aged seventy-one years.
The deceased was born in Country Tyrone, Ireland, Dec. 25th, 1816, but when a babe was brought by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ellison, to the southwestern portion of the town of Reading, where a homestead was established. Of this family but three brothers and one sister now remain, viz: John and Andrew Ellison of Reading, Tomas Ellison of Hornby, and Isabelle, wife of David Wasson of Tyrone. Samuel Ellison lived in Reading until his marriage with Miss Sarah Van Duzer. Then he went on the farm where the remainder of his years were spent. From a wilderness he converted it into a productive farmstead, wresting a competency from its soil. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ellison, three of whom died in one week upwards of thirty years ago. Those living are: Henry Ellison of Tyrone; Monroe Ellison of Nelson, Pa., Mary, wife of James Baker of Orange; Nelson Ellison of Monterey; Lewis Ellison of Silver City, Iowa; Susan, wife Isaac Baker of Tyrone; Albert Ellison of New York, and Frank Ellison of Tyrone.
A good citizen, a considerate neighbor and a kind and loving member of the family circle passed from earth in the death of Mr. Ellison. For upwards of half a century he was a member of the M. E. Church, and a staunch supporter of Christian institutions. The funeral services were held on Thursday; burial in Tyrone Cemetery." - Watkins Express, Feb. 2, 1888.
