He was a native of Columbia, S.C., and established his vacation residence in Palatka 45 years ago. He became a permanent resident in 1967. He worked as a doctor's assistant during World War II and was an airline pilot. He retired after 42 years as a conductor for Southern Railroad in Savannah, Ga., in 1967. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred H. Stickland of Brown's Landing; three daughters, Gayle Strickland of Sacramento, Calif., Glenda Gore of Palatka, Janet Sims of Ellabele, Ga.; three brothers, George Strickland of Conway, S.C., Lester Strickland of Miami, Fred Strickland of Columbia, S.C.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Masters Funeral Home chapel in Palatka with the Rev. J. O. McLeod officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd 1 Jan 1992.)
