In 1956 the family moved to Camaguey, Cuba, where he practiced medicine, later becoming head of the Hubermatos, the anti Castro organization in that province. In 1960, after the Cuban Revolution, the family fled, relocating to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he worked at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital later moving to Columbia, South Carolina. Al worked at the South Carolina State Hospital, then opened a private practice as a member of the Columbia Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Estefano was a member of the Rotary Club, the Palmetto Club, and Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
