Hazel was a strong and kind woman. She married Berlon Pennell and they had five children. She loved her children and grandchildren very much and was a great cook and caregiver. She came to know the Lord in the years before her passing. She had a warm smile and a contagious laugh.

Obituary: Hazel Edwards Pennell, 64, a resident of Smithfield

Hazel Inez Edwards Pennell, 64, of Skyland Drive, Smithfield died Wednesday.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas Preston and Annie Cook Edwards and a member of Grace Baptist Church in Princeton.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Grace Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne James will officiate. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Peggy Kuykendoll of Selma, Kay Ward of Smithfield, and Faye Davis of Wilson; two sons, Berlon Pennell Jr. of Selma and Larry Pennell of Raleigh; two brothers, James Edwards of Dunn and Thomas Edwards of Creedmoor; two sisters, Carolyn Creech of Newport News, Va. and Ruby Woodall of Grantham; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 till 9 p.m. today (Friday) in Casey Funeral Home.
