Soldier's Medal Recipient. His father was in the Navy, and met his mother while stationed in Europe. The family later resided in the Albany area. Julian attended St. James School in Albany, was a graduate of Watervliet High School, and received Emergency Medical Technician Training at Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Supply Specialist and was deployed to Iraq for 13 months in 2004 and 2005. In 2011 he received the Soldier's Medal, the highest award for non-combat heroism, in recognition of the risking of his own life in 2005 to save the lives of Iraqi soldiers injured when their truck overturned and caught fire at Kirkush Military Training Base. His additional awards included the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. Following his Iraq service he was employed as a Management Analyst with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Albany. He was killed when he was driving the wrong way on the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) and struck another vehicle head on. A passenger in the other vehicle was also killed. He was survived by his wife, Nicole M. With; his daughter, Alexis Sheridan; his stepdaughter, Taylor Augar; his stepson, Dalton Augar; his mother Josephine; his brother Aaron, and his sisters Larissa, Rebecka and Victoria. He was predeceased by his father and his sister Elizabeth.
