Leonard A. "Red" Charlson, 84 died at his home in Porter this morning, Tuesday, Feb 4, 1997
He was born April 9, 1912 in Lakeside, IN., the son of Charles and Hulda (Peterson) Charlson. He retired in 1978 from Wilbar Manufacturing in Chesterton, where he was a machinist and foreman.
On April 11, 1936, in Valparaiso, he married Myrtle Willett, who survives, as do sons Carl Charlson (wife Cheryl) of Chesterton, John Charlson ( Patricia) of Chesterton, and Rickey Charlson of Porter; daughters Jacqueline Bachman( Ralph) of Valparaios, Lynette Rohe (Steve) of Porter; brother Howard Charlson of Michigan City; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The lifelong area resident was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Ted Charlson, Myrtle Smith, Dorothy Jentzen, Norman Charlson, Violet Charlson, and Marvin Charlson and grandson Ronald Charlson.
A service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Brodway, Chesterton, with Dr. Christoph Armiger presiding. Entombment is planned at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 5 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be directed to the Visiting Nurse Association of Porter County.
