Civil War: 2nd Lieutenant, Company H, 3rd Florida Infantry. Enlisted July 1861, discharged April 1865. Severely fractured his left leg while escaping with four CSA soldiers he helped to break out of prison at Marianna. The harness on their horse-drawn wagon broke, and he fractured his leg while jumping out of the wagon to avoid falling into a river with it. His injury never set properly, causing him to periodically need crutches for the rest of his life.

Husband of Mary Young Simmons Moore; father of E.S., M.C., W.M., L.A., Weaver, and Ida. Son of Kidder Meade Moore and Elizabeth Carolina Croom.
