'The John Bell Carlton family back in the year 1913 moved from Weakley County, Tennessee Plks level Community to Higdon, Arkansas the place where we moved from were uncle Sam Carlton.
My mother Julia taken with her the five boys on the train, Leonard, Sam, Barney, JB and Clifford Cuthbert.
John Bell drove through in a covered wagon. Which taken him 17 days to make the trip his only companion was our dog Bruno.
We lived at Higden two years.
While there we spent several months on Sugar Loaf Mountain cutting timber for John Cap Stave Company. While in Higden we lost brother Clifford C March 20, 1914 in the 1916 we moved from Higden to Weakley County, Tennessee. Teh first year there Dad rented a farm from George Roby. Our nabors were the C J Noons family Mrs. Noon give some information that I have in my book. And in 1916 we moved to what they call the Mitchell Place. We lived there until 1919. The year 1919 we moved to Gleason, Tenn. March 1922 Dad went to Marked Tree Arkansas and got a job as millwright at the Chapman and Dewey Lumber Company. Then in the same year November we the rest of the family moved to Marked Tree.
Then all the boys got married and a family of their own. Dad worked for the Chapman and Dewey Lumber Company until 1936 he worked for the Federal Compress until 1946. In 1945 I moved to West Memphis Ark.
I have been back to Higden Ark several times and where we then lived is under water which is now Greer's Ferry Lake. They moved the town back that is the Post office and two stores and some houses. Higden is only 19 miles from Heber Spring and Heberspring is a great fishing and water skiing Resort and some of the most beautiful Country in Arkansas. A long ways from what it was in 1915.'
