Reverend James N. Cammisa, 99, of Lawrenceville, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, one day after celebrating his 99th birthday. Father Cammisa was born in Waterbury, CT and entered St. Bonaventure Seminary in Olean, NY and Christ the King Seminary in Buffalo, NY. He was ordained May 26, 1949 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, CT. He served in the Trenton and Metuchen Dioceses. Father Cammisa served as associate pastor of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Long Branch from 1952 to 1959 and as pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Whitehouse Station from 1967 until his retirement in 1977. During these years, the parish grew in size from approximately five hundred families, when he first came, to over eight hundred families ten years later. He spent his retirement years in Monmouth Beach, NJ and continued to help out around the diocese where needed until moving to the St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center in Lawrenceville, NJ. He was a lifetime member of the Knight of Columbus Council 335 in Long Branch.

He was predeceased by his parents, Massimo Vincenzo and Rosa (Rosina) Cammisa and his sister, Laura Cammisa and brothers, Saverio, Pasquale, John, Frank and Guido Cammisa. Surviving is a brother, Romeo Cammisa of Delmar, NY and 18 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Rite of Reception at Christ the King Parish of Holy Trinity Church, 408 Prospect Street, Long Branch, NJ. Visitation will be until his Funeral Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, CT. Arrangements are by the Fiore Funeral Home, West Long Branch, NJ.
