Winnie Grace Carr Wattenbarger, 74, of Crossville, left behind all her pain and sickness Feb. 6, 2013, surrounded by her family, gone to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to her new home in heaven. Funeral services were held Feb. 9 at Bible Baptist Church in Crossville. She was laid to rest at the Cold Springs Cemetery. Officiating the celebration of her life and home going were her sons, Donald Wattenbarger and Robbie Wattenbarger.
Winnie was born in Cumberland County, the daughter of Burley and Nancy Mary Sloan Carr, Dec. 28, 1938.
Pallbearers were John Wattenbarger, Ben Wattenbarger, Samuel Mendiola, Austin Wattenbarger, Shane Wattenbarger, Bobby Carr and James L. Wattenbarger. Special music was provided by the choir from Bible Baptist Church.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, Burley and Mary Carr, and one sister, Mary Alice Allred. "What a blessing to know they are all together where there will be no more goodbyes or tears."
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. "What a comfort to all of our hearts to know that she had trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior." She always loved to share all the miraculous things the Lord had done in her life. She never failed to give Him praise for saving her soul and allowing her to see all of her family saved, which was what she prayed for from the day she accepted Jesus into her life. She loved her fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and always expressed her love for them. "We will certainly miss her, but we know that she is looking and waiting for her family to get there to behold the face of Jesus as she is doing now. We are so thankful to have had a wonderful Godly mother that didn't tell us how to live, but showed us with her kind and loving ways."
Even though she suffered a great deal of physical pain in her life, she never complained. She always endured each trial with her health with a determination to keep on keeping on for her family, never thinking of herself, only of others.
The only profession she ever claimed was to be a mother and wife and "she was the very best mother, wife and grandmother we could have ever had." Even though she was stricken with illness for many years, she enjoyed cooking for her family. She also loved gardening, especially flowers of any kind. She spent many hours in her flower beds, manicuring them and enjoying their beauty.
