Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Steed-Todd Chapel in Clovis.

Mr. Haney Vernon Tate, 90, of Ranchvale, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1915, in Ranchvale, to Vernon and Ada Tate.

He was the sixth child, having five brothers and sisters older and five brothers and sisters younger. He started school in Ranchvale in 1920. He graduated in 1932 and has farmed in the Ranchvale area since. He has been an auctioneer since the beginning of World War II. He married Dorothy Loflin on Dec. 25, 1936. He was a member of Ranchvale Baptist Church since 1941, serving as a deacon, teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He also served on the Ranchvale school board for several years and was a supporter of the Curry County United Way. He was a charter member of the Curry County Farmers Union. He has been Democrat Precinct Chairman for over 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Cannon of Clovis; three sons, Phillip Don Tate (and wife, Mary), Bill Tate (Kathrynn), and Bob Tate, all of Clovis; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Travis Tate of Clovis; and a sister, Betty Jo Stevens of San Diego.

Herbert Bergstrom will offiacate the services.

Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.

Pallbearers are members of the men’s Bible school class in Ranchvale.

Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.
