Neville Oscar Buchanan, 77, of Tessenttee Road, Franklin, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at his residence.
He was a native of Macon county, the son of the late Oscar L. and Edna Picklesimer Buchanan. He was a retired technician for Cowetta Hydrologial Laboratory and was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was one of the founding members of the Macon County Coon Hunters Association and was active in local and national charities. He was a member of Dryman Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a choir director for 30 years, former Sunday School Superintendent, on the board of trustees and held other church and cemetery positions.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Alean Cabe Buchanan; one son, Gary Neville Buchanan of Franklin; four sisters, Ruby Justice and Hazel Rogers of Franklin, Bea Bell of Otto and Tee Henry of Franklin; two brothers, Kenneth Buchanan of Sharpsburg, Ga., and James Buchanan of Franklin. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Margie Cabe, Myrtle Campbell, Annie Dykes and Virgie Buchanan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at Dryman's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerome Hamm, Rev. Phill Williams and Rev. Don Moffitt officiating. Burial will be in the Wright Cemetery. Junior Cabe, Bruce Fox, Mike Buchanan, Mike Bell, Albert Justice, Jimmy Henry, Randall Rogers, Bill Dykes, David Pangle and Bill Harkins will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home.
