Eugene J. Keller of Sea Girt, NJ and Juno Beach, FL, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at home. Gene was born Aug. 26, 1941 in Newark to his parents, Gerard H. (Rod) and Regina Keller. He was a graduate of Delbarton Preparatory School and Villanova University. Gene was the proprietor of Rod's 1920's Road House, West Orange, and later Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille and The Madison Hotel of Convent Station.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gerard H. and Regina; his brothers, Gerard H. Jr., and L. Robert; his sister, Kathleen O'Dell; his sister-in-law, Lynette Keller and brother-in-law, Buster O'Dell. Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years, Maryann (nee Pallitta) and their children, Caitlin, Christopher, and Kevin. Gene is also survived by his five children from his previous marriage, Elizabeth Keller of Essex Fells, Catherine and Charles Galligan of Essex Fells, Mary Courtney of Essex Fells, John of Essex Fells, Rory and Joseph Shearn of Roseland; his sister, Kathleen and husband Edgar Donohoe; his sister-in-law, Linda Keller; his brothers, D. Peter and wife Carolyn, and Richard C. and wife Glenda; seven grandchildren, Michael Rolandelli, Jack, Caroline and Madeline Galligan, Sydney, Seton, and Sarajane Shearn, and his many loving nieces and nephews. Gene was especially fond and proud of his nephew, Jerry Keller.

Gene was Vice President of the New Jersey Restaurant Association from 1972-1974. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Restaurant Association from 1968-1974. He was Restaurateur of the Year in 1987 and 1990. Gene was loved and respected in his family business by not only his brothers and sister, but his many employees and patrons throughout the years.

Gene possessed a quiet courage and dignity that carried him through his many challenges. He showed kindness and goodness to others throughout his life. His wife and family miss him with all their hearts and gather strength from his deep commitment to his Catholic faith.

We would like to thank his doctors and the Sisters of Charity at Saint Anne's Villa who prayed with him.

Visitation will be at the Doyle Funeral Home, 106 Maple Ave., Morristown, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of Christ the King, Blue Mill Road, New Vernon. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
