Sylvia L. Gushwa, 88, died unexpectedly at 2:30 p.m. Friday, 31 August 1990 at Heritage Health Care, where she had been a resident for the past four years. She had been ill for one week.
Born in Lafayette, IN on 3 September 1901, to William and Josephine Walker Loman. She attended the former Ford School and St. Lawrence Catholic School. She resided most of her life in Lafayette. She also resided in Shoals, IN and Illinois.
In 1931, she married Thomas E. Gushwa, a carpenter, in Lafayette. He died on 18 May 1975.
Mrs. Gushwa attended Southside Wesleyan Church and was a member of Senior Citizens Community Center.
Surviving are four daughters, Sylvia Hendershot and Mrs. Lloyd (Edith) Glass, both of Lafayette, Mrs. William (Lucille) Imlay of Cortland, Ind, and Carolyn Settles of Columbus, Ohio; four sons, John Gushwa Richard Gushwa, Charles Russell Gushwa and Ronald Gushwa, all of Lafayette; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille M. Schick of Lafayette. She had 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Three sons, a daughter, a stepson, 2 sisters preceded in death.
Burial will take place at at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, with Rev. Joseph E. Park officiating the service on Tuesday.
