Mr. Ammons was born September 12, 1933 in Madison County. He was a member of Peeks Chapel Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Paul was a member of French Broad Masonic Lodge # 292.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Quillen and Dessie Mace Ammons; son, Stanley Ammons; sisters, Nobie Brackens, Betty Shelton and Jane Smith; brother, Ovie Ammons.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Hazel Willis Ammons; daughter, Debbie (Dewayne) Tweed of Marshall; sister, Doris Flasher of Marshall; two grandsons, Isaac (Amanda) Tweed and Dylan (Ashley) Tweed; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Paul Tweed.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home with the Reverend Billy Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Grooms Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.
