She was born in Stokes County on August 7, 1916 the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Vannie Nunn Ward.
Mrs. Ashburn was baptized in a creek in Stokes County as a child and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She married her husband Coy Ray Ashburn on November 24, 1934.
Mrs. Ashburn retired from Hanes Hosiery and loved to work in her flowers, sew and crochet. She lived at home until age 94 at which time she went to live at Priddy Manor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coy Ray Ashburn, four sons, Billy Joe Ashburn and three infant sons, a granddaughter, Stephanie Ashburn, a great-grandson, Shea Ashburn, five brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Ashburn is survived by a son, Frank Ashburn and wife Adelaide of Rural Hall, a daughter-in-law, Betty Stoltz Ashburn of King, a granddaughter, Lynn Ashburn Ketner and husband Keith of Kernersville, two grandsons, Billy Joe Ashburn, Jr. of King and Stan Ashburn of McKinney, TX, two great-grandsons and a step great-grandson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ashburn will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Carl Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in King.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mount Olive Baptist Church, 5413 NC Highway 66 South, King, NC 27021.
