Found in The State 19 May 1914: Special to The State: Eastover, May 18.-Hiram C. Webb, a carpenter of 1140 Olympia avenue, was run over and killed by an Atlantic Coast Line freight train near Eastover. The late Mr. Webb was well known in south Columbia. He had been working at his trade under James Lee in Eastover for the past two weeks. Coroner Scott went to Eastover yesterday afternoon to make an investigation. He will hold the inquest tomorrow morning at a Columbia undertaking establishment at 11 o'clock. It is said that Mr. Webb left Eastover about 2:30 o'clock thoday to walk to Wateree river down the Atlantic Coast Line tracks. While on his way to the river he was killed by the Columbia-Sumter local freight. The engineer of the train said that he saw a man sitting on the track with his head resting on his knees. The engineer blew the whistle twice to arouse him and tried to stop the train but was unable to do so in time. The late Hiram C. Webb was 65 years old. He leaves a widow; one son, Walter Webb, and four daughters, Mrs. Edward Linhardt, Mrs. William Kirkland, Mrs. John Wages and Miss Kate Webb, all of whom live in South Carolina. The remains were sent to Columbia late tonight.

He can be found on the 1900 US Census for Ward 3, Columbia, Richland, S. C., at age 52 living with Sallie, 35, Effie, 15, Walter, 12, Lizzie, 9, Lara, 7, and Charlie, 2. His DOB is given as May 1848. He was born in North Carolina as were both parents. He has been married 14 years. He is a carpenter.
