I am not sure where you got the information on his wife, as someone researching soldiers who fought in the 29th NC Regiment I ran across these which names a different wife. Not sure where you got his wife with a different mane which I have not run across on the internet. You might want to check this out.

Ervin F Roberts was married twice. First to Rachel M Patterson October 1, 1865 and second to Sarah Florence Burnette February 7, 1900. He had one child with Sarah, Veve Olivia Roberts who was 7 years old when Ervin died. Rachel M Patterson was first married to Elijah S Patterson before she married Ervin. There was a comment about the wife's name being different. Ervin R. Roberts is my great grandfather. He first married Rachel who passed away on July 28, 1899. He then married my great grandmother, Florence Burnett. This explains the two wives names.
