James Lyle McDonald was born 20 January 1912 in Gibson, McKinley, New Mexico to Charles Milton and Mary Elizabeth Fox McDonald.

He married 3 Jul 1935 in Gallup, McKinley, New Mexico, to Ada Victoria Plumb; she was born 13 Jan 1916 in St Johns, Navajo, Arizona to George Verner and Sarah Janie Mackey Plumb. Ada died 20 Mar 2006 in Bolivar, Polk, Missouri and was buried in Pennsboro, Dade, Missouri.

As a young man Lyle lived in Chambers, Arizona and he and Ada lived there when their children were born. Lyle was employed for thirty-three and a half years for the Arizona Highway Department. After his retirement they moved to Missouri. Lyle loved horses and always had the best.

James died 18 Jan 2005 in Springfield, Greene, Missouri
