They owned Long's Jewelry and Watch Repair shop on 5th Street in Connersville.
They were faithful members of the Central Street Methodist Church and brought both their children up in their faith. Being community minded, Alfred cleaned the court houseclock annually for free until his retirement. He also installed and maintained the clock at Robert's Park swimming pool where both children were life guards. During the summers, they closed up their business, and ran a concession stand at the Fair. They enjoyed this very much as they loved meeting up every year with old friends and family. Each summer they took and their chldren took on exciting vacation. In the 1940's they traveled to California in their Model T, which proved to be not only challenging but a learning experience. One year to Arizona, many trips to Washington D.C. and several trips to Schaffer Lake with a trailer for their accomodations. The Long's believed firmly in the family that prays together, stays together.
They moved to Laurel after their retirement. Alfred bult a garage on for a friend in Laurel to keep busy as he had always lived. Staying busy was all he knew. He even maintained his clock shop in Laurel.
