Herbert Leon Metcalf, age 66, 128 Honeycutt Road, Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 7:08 p.m. in Holston Valley Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County, a son of the late Pritchard and Ruby Bailey Metcalf, Sr.

Mr. Metcalf was of the Baptist faith and was a loving and devoted husband, dad, and pappy.He was a retired school bus driver for the Unicoi County School System with 21 years of service.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Pritchard Metcalf, Jr.; eight sisters, Dell Rice, Alma Jean Metcalf, Hattie Lou Hughes, Cleo Leppanen, Betty Ray, Dorothy Smith, Vera Mae Wheeler and Wilma McIntosh.

Mr. Metcalf was survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Wanda Jones Metcalf; four daughters, Karen Rios and husband, Craig, Unicoi, Susan Fenske and husband, Bret, Lakewood, Ohio, Amy Metcalf and fiance, Tyson Silvers, Unicoi, Randie Metcalf and fiance, P.J. Cook, Johnson City; six grandchildren, Nicholas Fenske and wife, Allie, Sarah Rios, Garrett Rios, Julia Fenske, Isabella Yates and Samuel Yates; one sister, Zell Rice, Mars Hill, North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive including a special nephew, Ronnie Smith, Unicoi, a special niece, who was like a sister, Wanda Briggs, Flag Pond and a special friend, James Laughren, of Unicoi.

Funeral service for Mr. Metcalf was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013, in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Darren Shelton, Reverend Craig Shelton, and Reverend Steve Rice officiated.

Graveside service were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Metcalf Cemetery in Flag Pond. Active pallbearers were James Laughren, Ronnie Smith, Bret Fenske, P.J. Cook, Tyson Silvers and Craig Rios.
