Arthur Joseph Bastarache was the son of Alfred 'Fred' Bastarache (1883–?) and Délina Lena Bernard (1878–1944) of Kent, New Brunswick, and the brother of Lucie Anne Bastarache (1908–1987). He married Doris Simonne Hamel Bastarache in 1939, and they had 4 children: Elaine Ann Bastarache Canniff Champagne (1941–1998), Paul George Bastarache (1945–1986), Capt. John A. Bastarache and James "Jim" Bastarache.
