Jeremiah was a PVT in the Revolutionary War. He was in the battles of Bunker Hill, Bennington, Princeton, and Trenton. In later years he drew a pension. [Alias: Jeremiah Barnes/Barris/Barrows according to Revolutionary War Records] Served under 1st Company of Richmond, NH Capt. Oliver Capron's Company, 3rd NH Regt. of Capt. David McGregore and others.

He was the son of Abraham Barrows/Barrus and Abigail [Streeter] Barrows/Barrus. Jeremiah married Prudence Shafter on 04 Dec 1783 in Richmond, Cheshire Co., NH. Prudence and Jeremiah had five children: [1] Mellen Barrows [Find A Grave Mem# 7048103], [2] Abigail [Barrus] Blanding, [3] Prudence [Barrus] Allen, [4] Jeremiah Barrus Jr., [5] Alvin/Alvan Barrus.
