Middlesex - Dottie Jean Wilder Strickland, 84, passed away on December 28, 2012 following a brief illness. She was born May 2, 1928 in Samaria to the late Clifton and Lillian Wilder.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis and her grandson, Sam.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, David Strickland; son, Duveen Strickland and wife, Amy of Middlesex; daughter, Debbie Watkins and husband, Lee of Dunn; grandchildren, Patrick Strickland and Autumn Watkins; sister, Joyce Whitley of Middlesex; and brothers, Jimmy Wilder of Spring Hope and Jerry Wilder of Bailey.

She was a dedicated church member of Rocky Cross Baptist Church for over 50 years and was especially active in the WMU and children's ministries. For years, she was known as the "chewing gum lady" by all the children of the church. Ms. Dot was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

Funeral Service: 2:00 pm, Monday, December 31, 2012 at Rocky Cross Baptist Church, 13452 Burgess Road, Middlesex, NC 27557.

The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.

Burial: Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UNC Children's Hospital, Campus Box 7237, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7237.
