Russell Allen Pop Nicholas, age 84, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away December 28, 2012 at his residence with family by his side. He was born in Ivydale, West Virginia on April 24, 1928 to the late Algie Nichols and Esther Rood Nichols. Russell has been a resident of Jacksonville, FL since 1968 after moving from Ravenna, OH. He served in the United States Army for four years and retired from Timuquana Country Club after many years of employment in the Building Maintenance Department. Russell was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 7909 in Jacksonville, FL. He enjoyed fishing, going to the dog track, and watching sports. Russell was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Morris, Virginia Sanor, and Vada; his brother, John Nichols; his ex-wife, Rosalie Nicholas; and his grandson, Timothy Lee Folsom. He is survived by his loving children, Cathy (Andy) Self of Macclenny, FL, Donald A. (Donna) Nicholas of Jacksonville, FL, John M. (Nucoma) Nicholas of Macclenny, FL, Shirley (Joe) McKinney of Ocala, FL, and Rusty (Chris) Nicholas of Jacksonville, FL; his 36 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 4:00 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Tommy Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. The arrangements are under the care and direction of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL 32063
