Death date from funeral register, which gives age as 67 y 6 m 29 d.. Illinois Death and Stillbirth Index, 1916-1947, shows buried Oct. 14, 1926. [Black's Cemeteries of Lawrence Co. IL says 1923, obviously an error.] His wife, Laura Amanda Jerrell, (1865-1936), also buried in Otterbein Cemetery. He was a farmer.

Death and Stillbirth Index also comments that he had been a resident of Lawrence Co. for 62 years.An old cemetery reading lists the tombstones for Fredrick Newton Stevenson & his wife Laura as next to Elliott, Eliza, & Joseph Stevenson.

"BIRDS MAN DROPPED DEAD
Newt Stevenson, of Birds, dropped dead Tuesday afternoon while working on the C. E. Gerhart farm, east of Birds. He was helping bale hay when he fell and expired instantly. It is said heart disease was the cause of death.
Deceased was about 70 years old and is survived by several children."
