Rachel W. Martin

Rachel W. Martin was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary Kreider Wengert. She was the wife of Walter S. Martin who died in 1982.

Mrs. Martin was an active member of Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church all her married life, participating in the Pioneer Girls, Church Women United, the Women?s Group and Sewing Circle and was a Sunday school teacher.

She attended Elizabethtown College, and taught elementary school in Annville, PA and the former PA State Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Mrs. Martin, her husband and family served as directors of Mennonite Central Committee in Jerusalem, Palestine for three years. They established a school for secondary students in Beit Jala, which continues to educate and train students today. She also volunteered with numerous organizations including: Kenbrook Bible Camp, the Paxton Home and Messiah Village.

The Funeral Service was be held on Sunday, April 27, 2008 in Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ Church, 996 East High Street, Elizabethtown at 3:00 PM.
