Jerry K. Rone, 68, of Bloomington died Wednesday, December 20, 2012 at his residence. Born March 27, 1944 in Monroe County, he was the son of Charles and Mary (Rowe) Rone. Jerry had a passion for auto racing. As a teenager he took part in the sport from behind the wheel of a drag car, stock car and sprint car. Throughout his life he fulfilled his love for racing in other ways. He took his love for the sport further than behind the wheel. Jerry spent many years as a crew chief of sprint car racers such as Sheldon Kinser, Ricky Hood and Kevin Huntley. In 1970 Jerry won the USAC mechanic of the year. He was truly blessed with the intelligence and dedication it took to lead his drivers to victory. Jerry was undoubtedly loved and will be remembered as one of those people you feel blessed to have known. He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Sumitt and Sue Miller, daughters, Eloise Clemens, Melissa Lowery and Melanie Wurr, stepsons, Jim McIntire and Jerry McIntire, stepdaughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tracy Koontz, thirteen grandchildren, J.R., Kirbee, Tyler, Taylor, Cody, Jeremy, Josh, Jerrod, Travis, Brittany, Justin, Kevin and Kaitlyn, five great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brayden, Blake, Dahlia and Hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles & Mary C, ( Rowe ) Rone , his loving wife Judy (Hedrick) Rone, brother, Leonard Miller and grandson, Derrick Ping. Visitation will be 4-8pm Sunday, December 23, 2012 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard, 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington. Services will be 10:00am Monday at Soul's Harbor Apostolic Church, 7510 S. Old State Rd. 37 in Bloomington. Pastor David Butcher will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to I.U. Health Hospice House, 2810 S. Deborah Dr. Bloomington, IN 47403.
