He was born on February, 17, 1925 in Owensboro to the late Hillard and Essie Embry Gary.
He was the retired second generation owner operator of Gary's Auto Parts, and was a Veteran of the US Navy having served on LST 473. He was an Owensboro historian and enjoyed genealogy and collecting Owensboro jugs.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Maxine Brown Gary, two sons: Lynn Gary and his wife, Martha, of Owensboro, and Jan Gary of Henderson, two granddaughters: Hillary Rizen and her husband, Sean, of Owensboro, and Erin Lewis and her husband, Kenneth, of Owensboro, one great granddaughter, Beatrix Rizen, of Owensboro and one sister, Genevieve Brandenburg and her husband, Don, of Evansville.
Services are 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro, KY. Burial is in Elmwood Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
