U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and former POW. Enlisted at Richmond, VA on 03 Jan 1942.

Technical Sergeant Clifford V. Meadows served as a Crew Chief on C-47A S/N 42-92842. While flying a resupply airdrop mission on 19 Sep 1944 during Operation Market Garden, his aircraft encountered heavy flak and was shot down over Holland. Meadows, Radio Operator SSG Wally Schryver and Drop Master PFC Bruce L. Moore bailed out safely and survived, but Meadows and Schryver were captured by the German Army. Schryver was held at Stalag Luft I in Barth, Germany; Meadows was held at Stalag Luft IV near Tychowo, Poland.

Co-Pilot 2Lt Warren W. Ehlert also successfully bailed out, but was later killed in action. Aircraft Commander and Pilot 1Lt David B. Proctor was last seen putting on his parachute, but was unable to bail out. He went down with the aircraft and was killed.

After the war ended and he was released, Cliff remained in the military and retired from the USAF. He continued working as a civilian at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, where he supervised engine maintenance during aircraft scheduled inspections (Phase Dock) for the 4950th Test Wing until his retirement. Very humble, reserved and having a wonderful sense of humor, Cliff Meadows was an extraordinary man. I was honored to have served with him at Wright-Patterson.
