Ferebee was a farmer, lawyer, legislator( five terms in the NC House of Commons and a member of the 1861 Convention that voted for secession), and Colonel of the 59th Regt. NC Troops(4th NC Cavalry Regt), CSA. He resigned this post in March, 1865 to serve on the staff of NC Governor Zeb Vance. He returned to Camden County, NC after the war where he died in 1884..
