Arlene Jackson was born in Glasston, ND, in Pembina County, ND on July 26, 1934 to Isaac Lowell and Annie (Chapman) Jackson. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Glasston, ND. Arlene attended school through grade eight at Glasston. Upon completion of grade eight, she transferred to St. Thomas High School in St. Thomas, ND.

She worked for the Jolliet Grain Company after high school and met her future husband, Douglas E. Turner there. Arlene and Douglas were married November 7, 1951 at Humbolt, MN, where they made their home.

Sometime later, Arlene and family moved to Grand Forks, ND, where they lived until 1960. Douglas took a transfer with the North Dakota State Highway Department and moved the family to Langdon, ND. While living in Langdon, Arlene was employed with School Food Service and managed an A&W drive-in restaurant during summer months. As busy as Arlene and Douglas were, they raised four children: Perry, Janna, Kevin and Kara.

Arlene was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church; she was active in Sunday school, church camps and circle activities. Arlene and Douglas found great joy as they sang many duets at weddings and funerals.

Arlene had several lifelong hobbies: gardening (vegetables and flowers), baking anything and everything for everyone, the Minnesota Twins and quilting. Arlene's yard was always the neighborhood playground and there was always room at the table for an extra plate. Arlene continued her interest and passion for quilting when she relocated in Wishek in the fall of 1995. Arlene joined the Homespun Quilt Club and enjoyed many hours sharing her interest with friends and her two daughters.

Arlene died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Sheyenne Valley Care Center, Valley City, ND. She was 78 years old.

Arlene is survived by one son, Perry (Debra L.) Turner, Wishek, ND; two daughters, Janna Smillie, Fargo, ND and Kara Turner Aipperspach (Dale), Wishek, ND; six grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren; one brother, Warren (Janet) Jackson, DeGraff, MN.

She was preceded in death by parents, Isaac Lowell and Annie, her husband, Douglas, a son, Kevin D. and grandson, Kevin H, five brothers, Robert, Richard, Archie, Gerald and Orlin; one sister, Merle Fitzgerald.
