Lena Nora Rose
Lena Nora Rose, 89, of Village Road, Shipman, departed this life Feb. 4 at her residence.
Born Dec. 29, 1919, in Nelson County, the daughter of the late John Rose and Rebecca Wayne Rose.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Ralph E. Allen and a daughter, Rev. Betty A. Miles.
Lena's first husband was Walter Morris Allen, Sr. (1912 - 1985) - (brother of my gandmother Carlie Ann Allen)of Shipman, wife of Arthur Garfield Nicholas.
Lena Nora's second husband was Lenwood "Worth" Nicholas (1927 - 2005), son of my grand uncle James "Jim" Nicholas, and Jim's second wife Easter Bolden (1898 - 1936). Jim's third wife was Lena's mother, Rebecca Lee Wayne Rose/ Nicholas.
A road is named in Lena's honor, located in Lovingston, Nelson, VA on Rte. 29 called "Lena Nora Rose Lane".
She is survived by her sons, Walter M. Allen, Jr. of Amherst, Herbert C. Allen of Camp Springs, MD, George M. Allen of Washington, DC, James L. Allen of Darmstadt, Germany, Melvin N. Allen of Barhamsville, Warren B. Allen, and Alfred B. Rose both Shipman as well as 23 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Lena was a member of St. Hebron Baptist Church.
A funeral service was held on Feb. 8 at St. Hebron Baptist Church in Wingina with the Rev. Joseph Jones officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends before the time of service and suggests that memorials take the form of donations to Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2 Charlottesville, VA 22093.
