Robert Wayne Vance, age 40, passed away August 3, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 7, 1962 in Sydney, Australia to John A. Vance and Mary E. Zaugg. Robert lived in Australia and Canada until age 15 when he moved to Provo and has remained in the area until the time of his passing.

Robert is survived by his beloved Karrie Lynn Applegate whom he married January 20, 1983 in the Provo LDS Temple. Together they have four children: Kevin (18), Jonathan (15), Zachary (11), and Emily (6), all of whom Robert loved with all his heart and soul. He is also survived by his parents, John and Mary Vance, of Cedar Hills; a sister, Shirley Wells, of Pleasant Grove; four brothers, Allan (Cyndie) Vance, Calgary, Alberta; Canada; Byron Vance, Kauai, Hawaii; David (Karma) Vance, Conifer, Colorado; and Mike Vance, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; as well as Karrie's parents, brothers, and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews whom Robert took an active interest in.

In addition to his family, Robert enjoyed taking part in all aspects of hockey. He loved working with the youth as well as playing the game and has many cherished friends and memories. Robert served most recently in a variety of positions with the Sandy City Police Department. He also worked with the South Salt Lake and American Fork Police Departments. This work he enjoyed.

The family would like express special thanks to all the special people who had a profound effect on Robert's life.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 10th at 11:00 a.m. in the American Fork East Stake Center, 850 East 500 North. Friends and family may call Friday 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, and Saturday at the Stake Center from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment, Orem City Cemetery.
