Helen L. Huegel, age 94, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Notre Dame Parish in Cresco. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until time of service, Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the church. Burial will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery in Lourdes, Iowa. Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Helen was born on March 28, 1918 to Vincent and Anna (Shatek) Shatek in Howard County, Iowa. She attended country school until the eighth grade. On April 11, 1939 Fr. Renier united Helen in marriage to Cletus Huegel at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lourdes, IA.
Helen was a homemaker and enjoyed spending her time cooking and baking, especially breads and Bohemian dishes. When she was out of the kitchen, she could be found quilting or tending to her flowers, garden, houseplants, working in the fields, and taking care of animals. Helen was very involved with her church, sitting on several committees. Cletus and Helen traveled through Hawaii, Europe, and all over the United States. They would occasionally take a trip to the casino to try their luck. Helen loved children, and babysat for several families over the years.
Helen is survived by her children: Beverly (Bob) Trytek of Van Meter, IA, Nancy (Mike) Irvin of Dubuque, IA, Connie (Bill) Sindelar of Cresco, IA, and Joyce (Darrell) Wagner of Council Bluffs, IA. Her nine grandchildren: Ken, Jason, Jeff, Amy, Becky, Robert, Brian, Joshua, Jennifer, 14 great grandchildren, and sister Angeline Northness of Owatonna, MN.
Her husband Cletus on February 5, 2001 and brother, Wesley Shatek preceded her in death.
