Mable Jeanette Vanderford Owenby,68,of 328 Pineland Road, wife of Johnnie L. Owenby,died Feb.13,1998 at 12:39 am in Spartanburg,Regional Medical Center after a extended illness surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Mrs.Owenby was born on Nov.8,1929,a daughter of James Curtis and Lucille Gregory Vanderford.She was a active lifelong member of Union Church of God and was retired from United Merchants ,Union Plant.She was a wonderful Wife,Mother.and Big Mama.She loved to cook and enjoyed her family ,friends and church family ,she loved family reunions and church fellowships and traveling .
Surviving in addition to her husband are three daughter Wanda Murphy and Carol Owenby both of Union,S.C and Karen Owenby of Bath S.C.three sons, David Owenby of the home Roger Owenby of Enoree,S.C. and John Owenby of Charlotte N.C.a sister of Hickory N.C.,a brother,Millard Vanderford of Florida;ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren .
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday at Union
Church of God by the Rev.Alton Stone ,the Rev.Lacy Jones and the Rev.Ron Culbertson .Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery .
Active pallbearers will be Billy Beheler,Michael Tucker, Tommy Adams,Terry Davis,Donald Bolton and L.C.Johnson.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm .The body will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm on Sunday to await the hour of service .
