HAMPTON - Julia Geneva Ashe, 98, a lifelong resident of Hampton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 surrounded by her family. Geneva grew up on the Sealey family farm, and enjoyed picking, selling, and canning vegetables. She graduated from Hampton High School. Geneva and her husband Herman were devoted in marriage for over 60 years. They traveled together often to North Carolina as well as to Branson, MO, and Hawaii. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church for 85 years where she served faithfully for 40 years in the children's ministry teaching the Bible and served as a leader for the Woman's Missionary Union. She will always be remembered for being a good and faithful servant for the Lord, as well as her devotion to her family and her kindness and generosity to others.

She is survived by her two children, June A. Mouring and husband, Bradford, of Hampton, and Linwood L. Ashe of Newport News; brother Joseph Sealey of Hampton; sister Vivian Landrum of Newport News; sister-in-law Vernell Sealey of Newport News; 6 grandchildren, Keith Mouring and wife, Cathie, David Mouring and wife, Robin, Catherine Mouring Howard, Michael Mouring, Alicia Miller, and Stacy Fitzgerald and husband, Tommy; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman L. Ashe; parents, Mallory Maney and Lillian Mae Sealey; sister, Marie Becker; and brothers, Earl Sealey, Mallory Sealey, and Edwin Sealey.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM Monday, October 17, 2016 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, October 18, 2016 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Joe Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666. Arrangements by W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
