Betty Jo Davis Roberson Lewis

Betty Lewis passed away into the arms of God on June 29, 2015, at the age of 87. She was residing in Hutchins, Texas at the time of her passing.

Betty was born on July 7, 1927, in Ennis, Ellis County, Texas. She was the daughter to farmers, the late Sarah Etta Guy Davis and the late Lewis Ephram Davis.

Following graduation from Ennis High School, she married Johnnie Ray Roberson on January 26, 1946. Together, they had three beautiful daughters: Betty Alice Roberson Steele, Cynthia Lynn Roberson Isbell, and Paula Jean Roberson Peck. Betty had many jobs including a daycare provider, a school cafeteria worker, and a 7-11 employee.
Later in life, Betty married William (Bill) Harley Lewis on June 2nd, 2000. They enjoyed life at their Cedar Creek Lake home and later in Hutchins, Texas.

Betty, aka Mom or Grannie, could often be found in the kitchen cooking one of her signature dishes. She especially loved to make desserts because she had a real sweet tooth. You would also find her making homemade potato soup anytime you were sick, or preparing homemade cake and ice cream for your birthday. She loved watching “I Love Lucy” or “Wheel of Fortune”, and traveling. Her goal was to visit all 50 states, especially the state of Colorado, which was her very favorite place.
Betty was an avid 42 and Skip-Bo player. She also enjoyed coordinating bingo, dances and other activities at Friendship Towers in Oak Cliff. She served as the Noble Grand of the Rebekah Assembly of Texas. Betty was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her. She had a servant's heart and will be deeply missed.

Her pallbearers will be her grandsons Trent Randall Fredde, Jared Ray Isbell, Ryan Egg, great-grandsons, Ryan Slade Mireles, Garrett John Mireles and honorary pallbearer, Jacob Charles Egg.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, of 30 years, Johnnie Ray Roberson, her sister, Mary Agnes Davis Milam, and her husband, James Milam, formerly of Dallas, Texas, her brothers, Hayden Lee Davis, and his wife, Gladys Ellis Davis, formerly of Dallas, Texas, Chattam Edward Davis, formerly of Lufkin, Texas, J.T. Davis and his wife, Juanita (Blondie) Davis, formerly of Corsicana, Texas, William Eugene Davis and his wife, Mildred Davis, formerly of Dallas, Texas and brother Ernest Ephram Davis and wife Kathleen Sherrill Davis, formerly of Grand Prairie, Texas. She was also preceded in death by stepson, Howard Lewis of Plano, Texas.

She is survived by her husband Bill Lewis of Hutchins, Texas, her daughter Alice Roberson Steele and her husband Otho Steele of Little Elm, Texas, her daughter Cindy Isbell and her husband Steve Isbell of Dallas, Texas, her daughter Paula Peck and her husband Clay Peck of Winter Garden, Florida and honorary daughter Judy Rumfield and her husband Ray Rumfield of Aubrey, Texas; her stepdaughters Terri Lewis of Carrollton, Texas and Vicki Berg and husband Byron of Gilbert, Arizona.
Betty (Grannie) is also survived by her grandchildren: Angela Lynn Mireles of Beaumont, Texas, Carrie Jo Egg and her husband Ryan Egg of Katy, Texas, Trent Randall Fredde of Arlington, Texas and Jared Ray Isbell of Dallas, Texas, as well as grandchildren Chris Hodges of Carrollton, Texas and Brandon Berg of Gilbert, Arizona, Jeremy Lewis and wife Nicki of McKinney, Texas, Jennifer Schaefer and husband Dan of Kissimmee, Florida, and Jason Lewis and wife Lissa of Garland, Texas.
Betty is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Ryan Slade Mireles of Beaumont, Texas, Garrett John Mireles of Beaumont, Texas, Savannah Renee Mireles of Beaumont, Texas, Jacob Charles Egg of Katy, Texas and Chloe Charlotte Egg of Katy, Texas as well as DJ Schaefer of Kissimmee, Florida and Emily and Calista Lewis of Garland, Texas.

Betty Lewis’ graveside service will begin with a private family viewing on Friday, July 3rd at West/Hurtt Funeral Home in Desoto, Texas, followed by a graveside service at 11am at Post Oak Cemetery in Navarro County, near Roane, Texas. Chaplain Cornelius Greer, of Hospice Plus will officiate. Betty will be buried next to her first husband, Johnnie Roberson at Post Oak Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Methodist Charlton Hospital in Dallas, Texas, the staff of Hospice Plus of Dallas, and the staff of West/Hurtt Funeral Home in Desoto, Texas. The family would also like to extend a very special thanks to the Davila family: Mauricio, Claudia and Monica for wonderful care and support.
