Donald Berry Dearing (1930-1947), age 17, freshman at the University of Florida, died Sunday morning in a Gainesville hospital from injuries when his army jeep overturned as he swerved to avoid crashing into a car backing out from a road side stand on State Highway 20 some 22 miles west of here at about midnight Saturday.
The funeral was held here Monday afternoon at the Davis Chapel, with Rev. D. C. Woolley, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill East Cemetery.
Young Dearing was a native of Orlando, where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Dearing, reside. Other survivors include his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Fraser, and two aunts, Mrs. W. H. Zorn and Mrs. R. C. Higginbotham, and an uncle, A. E. Fraser, all of this city. (Palatka Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 26 Sep 1947.)
