PORTLAND--Helen Irene Stoner, 91, Portland, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006 at Ruth Lilly Hospice at Clarion in Indianapolis.

Helen was born May 30, 1915 in Madison Township to Jesse and Cora (May) Locker. Helen graduated from Madison Township High School. In 1935 she married Wilbur K. Stoner, who survives.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was active in Wesleyan Circle and Homemakers Class. Previous to that she was a long time member of Salamonia United Church of Christ. She started prayer chains in both churches. She spent most of her life as a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Wilbur; one son, Larry K. Stoner (wife-Ethel) of Hartford City; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Kay) Gleeson of Carmel; brother, Dale Locker; and sister, Pauline Via.

Helen enjoyed spending time with her three grandsons, Jeffrey, Michael and Kevin Stoner; and her two granddaughters, Libby Willms and Christy Dempster; and her nine great-grandchildren.

Her parents; her brothers, Everett and Howard Locker; and sister, Gertrude Cooper, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Darrel Borders presiding. Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Music Dept., Ruth Lilly Hospice at Clarion or Indiana Alzheimer's Association.
